7. Lets see….What else that I missed?

Through out the last two weeks I covered up my N95 review under 6 topics, though I planned to get on with some more. There were some limitations which were hard to over come like no GPS service,Most of the online services are not available for my region and I was able to borrow a Wireless access point only for one day(Thanks Dr Chathura for giving me access to his Wi-Fi )
.But I did the covering to the best I can,and Still there are something left that I haven’t posted here, so thought of get them all into a single post and this is is the last post of regarding the direct feedback I experienced with the N95,Which means this will not cover up the verdict, thoughts, suggestions and the wishlist as they will follow up in the next few days.

Resolution : It does make a real difference

My first mobile phone was a Samsung C200, a basic phone with a color display,no camera,no symbian, no radio nothing just a slim mobile. But at that time I could have easily go for a Nokia which offered more features than it, the reason why I went for that is purely the “high resolution Display” it had with nicely arranged menus with plenty of animations to fool me. Then I shifted to Samsung X480 again the same reason plus the taste of a different form factor, It was about 3years ago and most of my friends and basically the whole youth, were trapped into a trend powered by Samsung’s vivid colored displays and Sony Ericsson’s elegant designs, where as nokias were circulating among the mid aged executives and professional businessmen(Communicator series) in Sri Lanka.

Nokias came into contest with the arrival of 6600 which made a real impact on the mobile market here in Sri Lanka and I too felt like buying one, what stopped me was the low resolution it had, at that time it was hard for me to change into something which is not eye-candy enough to beat the Samsung display. My vision on a mobile screen is that it has to be clear and should be able to tease you with its graphics. But after I got to know about the Symbian platform I had no choice against my eagerness to test it, other than going for it, so I chose 6630,which was a good choice and I was very much satisfied with it, that’s why I’m still keeping it with me. But then came the true beauty with 352×416 resolution the N80. The screen is clear and bright with clean fonts and sharp edges on icons which makes a real difference. It makes your appetite to wonder around menus watching the nicely catered graphics for hours. That’s why I’m saying that the resolution has a big role to play when it comes to buy a device where most symbian and windows mobiles fail to impress. When comes to the N95 this is a significant issue since it’s screen has grown larger than the previous big screen bearer N73,but still it hasn’t changed the resolution from 240×320.this why we see this pixellated effect around the corners of icons and ugly fonts. If they have included a high resolution display into this device there we would have seen true successor of all the previous N series devices but sadly we didn’t get it and hopelessly in the 8gig version the pixel density was reduced further more. So please Nokia, since N96 is still in the oven you can do that change without making us disappointed again.

Music player and sound quality

The music player has been pretty much improved than the one we have in the N80 and it does a good job with a satisfactorily good quality, I’m not a person fooled by the loudness of the sound and saying it’s good. But this really does a good job with its dual speakers. Though this is not marketed as a music device it has everything to be called so, the dedicated music keys, music player which runs in the background and requires a task manager to kill, and headset will all the music controls. So that’s why it deserves the title “the perfect portable multimedia computer “. But there is one thing I noticed regarding the headset is that the sound quality is not good when it comes to making calls, as when it is working with the music player.

Gallery

Gallery is also little bit improved than the N80 and the online sharing through services like flickr are great additions and also the new slideshow is very attractive to be viewed in the large screen.

There may be lot more things I’ve missed but during my trial period these are the things that I spotted mostly. So you might think why I’m not talking about the web browser, the reason is I had only few hours to access the wlan and here in Sri Lanka GPRS rates are very high and with a browser that supports many multimedia features that will really outrun my credit limits. But I tried some web browsing and Some online services (New symbian client of Nimbuzz was one of the apps which kept me online for long),and the browsing on the large screen is really fun and the mini-map feature is makes it very easy to navigate. But I don’t think that it’s enough for me to comment on this feature, that’s why I didn’t go into more details. So I think this what I experienced during the past 2 weeks and if you think I could have done well than this please leave a comment and It would be a great help for me to improve in the future
