N82 is back on its way to WOM world,And I would like to thank everybody there who helped ma and especially RichardG for all the great stuff. While I was having the device I tested mostly on the camera capabilities, and also some other areas too.Anyway as my final words on it I will put them together in two parts as follows.

1.)N82 : What’s New in it.

RAM-Loads of free Memory

Symbian OS is the secret behind Nokia’s growing into “Multimedia Computers”,the reason is that the OS itself is open to variety of application developers to bring solutions to the needs me the growing mobile user community. But if you have used any s60 3rd edition device other than N82,N95 8Gb,E90 and the N95 US version, you’ll know how much the RAM issue was killing you.I’ve had enough of hesitations with my N80, when ever I tried to run two or three programs together especially when you have forgotten to restart your phone for several days and try to open the gallery or web, what you’ll see is a “Memory full”message. But with the N82 you’ll never face this problem. You can easilly install all your favorite

applications and still you are running smoothly without any lagging or freezing. Its in-built 128MB RAM is the most remarkable factor to its success as a perfect multimedia and multitasking powerhouse.Unlike any other symbian phone I’ve used the N82 has perfected the art of memory management. It’s is visible from the begining,as you’ll clearly notice that how fast it boots up.Though the N95’s latest firmware faces the memory management with the demand paging,it wi

ll never become reliable as the 8gig version having 128MB of ram.The N82 is a true storytelling discovery and in the other hand it is a true “creator of history”,as it is capable of convincing, there was no such problem with memory availability on smartphones. After using it for few days you become totally unaware about memory issues,it’s that powerful and can facilitate virtually any number of applications. So you’ll get a total mobile computing experience with the N82.

User interface improvements

As the N95-1 N82 is also running on s60 v3 OS 9.2,but it has some changes and among them the most significant features are the new multimedia menu and the auto screen rotation.

The multimedia menu is not a perfect stranger as it was 1st launched with the N95 8GB and in the N81 too. What I have to say about it is that its good and more productive than the one available in the N95-1,but it doesn’t have the looks.Older version is unique to the N95-1 and it is very customizable, flow of icons is smooth n eye candy, and though it doesn’t change with the theme color code, like the new one,we can change its unique idle mode slideshow as we wish. But the new menu is good in functionality thanks to its tab feature. It makes it very easy to keep track of your recent activities and makes it easy to reach quickly to what you need.So depending on the user it might have cons and pros.

N82 is the first and the only Nokia phone to have built-in auto rotation(though the E70 had it, it requires a hardware switch to be activated when the second keypad is flipped.and also N95 8GB got it recently with its latest firmware update)The auto rotation or the rotation with a key press hit the users when Samir came up with the Rotateme application which is lot better than the N82s auto-rotation,as it offers more control over the rotate function. The N82s auto-rotation comes very handy when it comes to browse the Gallery and the Web,but also sometimes it is very annoying to get the screen disoriented when we are in the middle of some important work.So it would be better if Nokia can buy the rotateme from Samir and integrate it into the OS.

2.)N82 : What I like and dislike

what I like about the N82

1. Rock solid build quality,no wobble like the N95 and no toyish impression like in N81

2. Firm spring assisted camera lens cover, this is the best of it I’ve seen on Nokia’s.And brushed metallic camera unit exterior.

3. Beautifully textured glossy back cover adds a classy elegance to the device.

4. The band around the phone, with nicely fitted camera and volume buttons and the carved-in speakers.

5. Flat and aligned-pad,makes the navigation in menus very easy.

6. Well responsive popped out keys are easy to press.

7. The top placement of the 3.5mm jack, makes more sense and makes it easier to keep the device in a pocket n listen music.

what I dislike about the N82

The reason number 3 and 6 which made me love it also make me dislike the device in another way.So let me start with those 2 things.

1. The smooth glossy surface both in the back n front sides, and the metallic band which has no grip, makes it slippery and it’s very likely to be dropped more than the other devices.

2. Keys are too small though they are, solid. For people with large finger tips texting would not be a very pleasant experience.

3. One-pieced selection keys+Menu+Delete key unit.To me this is the worst modification they’ve done and also by placing the multimedia key between the right selection key and the delete key makes it hard to press the delete key.

4. Highly reflective screen guard makes it impossible to see anything on the screen, when the phone is exposed to sunlight. This was a major issue for me while doing outdoor photography. It would be better if it can adopt a screen like in 6120 classic which has a anti reflective coating on top of the screen.

5. Its good at replacing a digicam but it doesn’t feel like a one,cos its not conveniently designed in such a way to hold firmly like a Digicam while shooting.

So alas What I have to say about the N82, is that I trialled the best ever made Mobile phone released yet!!!!!!

All the other parts of my N82 review can be found here,

1.Beauty has arrived
2.N95 vs N82: Dual slider or Candybar
3.What’s in a “Design”
4.GPS and Battery consumption
5.Geotagging+Hike
6.Light it up with Xenon Flash
7.Glory of Mobile Photography
8.A bit of Nature Documentary

N82 : A bit of Nature Documentary

If you can remember I’ve posted some photos of two baby squirrels, and after snapping those photos something popped up into my mind,to get some more use of the N82’s camera. With its Xenon flash and 30fps video capturing I thought of documenting those two fellas gradually as they grow both in Stills and Video. As their nest was accessible to me,I kept my eyes on it and I was able to get some good pics and some nice videos.Video quality of these are not the best that the N82’s camera can produce but with the available light conditions, and with the limited space to manure while having to grab the phone firmly,I think its fairly good enough with details. Also I had to keep my distance while taking pics and have to be careful, cos the power of Xenon flash is very bright and could have blinded them if I was too close to them.So here are the Photos and 2 Videos of them. The N82’s camera can do so many things that will take some time to discover, but I’m sure people with creative ideas will find this opportunity as a real delightful approach to mobile Photography and Mobile film making. And one more thing,I wonder what if there is a macro mode for the video too?

Note:And few days ago something went wrong, with the arrival of heavy rains, their mother was gone or probably killed by crows. Also only one orphaned baby survived,I did my best to nurture them but the other one died of the cold.So now I’m adopting the one escaped and he is well under my protection.I’m heart broken but, nature has it own rules so I’m happy to do what I can do for them.

2009 seems to be full of surprises for Nokia lovers, both s60 and s40,as they’ve already come up with three major phone launches(Actually announcements). And the latest and the hottest news is the launch of the New 5320 XpressMusic device featuring s60 3rd edition FP2(Why not FP3?) at their Music press Event,an average featured device compared to the N-series trend, but surprisingly it will support N-Gage gaming platform, and will become the first non-N-series device to be so.Also it will support the Nokia music store. The recent releases of Nokia devices are a good indication of their effort to give more space to multimedia and gaming facilities together in the handsets, and this will be a more affordable and well reasonable alternative to the N81.This new candybar is expected to go with the recent XpressMusic color codes Blue and Red like 5610 and 5310,but probably there will be some variants pop up if it hits the market.Apart from the technical features, the Frontal design is more attractive than the back side, and the slim design will be a magnet for the youth. And the new “Say and Play” option will definitely be an enthusiasm for music addicts, but its capabilities will vary depending on the surroundings.

According to the specs revealed,5320 XpressMusic will feature,

  • S60 OS (S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2)
  • Two versions each quad-band GSM, one with 850/2100 MHz 3G / HSPDA and the other with 900/2100 MHz 3G / HSDPA
  • 2 megapixel camera
  • 240 x 320 pixel display with 16M colors
  • FM radio and A2DP stereo bluetooth
  • 3.5 mm headphone jack
  • microSDHC support
  • 890 mAh battery with a reported 24 hours of music playback on a single charge

Complete spec sheet here

Update:According to the Video the real thing looks gorgeous and it has 8GB internal memory,a real budget alternative for N81

And as we see in this Live pic I found over at intomobile,it seems that, the tiny Symbian musicbox is powered with Feature Pack 2.So all the doubts are cleared and it will kick-off both N81 and 6120 classic from the budget-dealers.

Black is Gold?

Our eyes are developed to search and quench the thirst of viewing pleasure,to satisfy our fantasies,And the Colour is a basic fact of taste when it comes to fall in Love with Something (or some one). This what lead us to both good and bad,Creativity is born there,Diversity is fueled by it.And Nokia has picked this up perfectly as a strategic Marketing technique to keep up their sales, when a specific device starts to fall after it reaches to the peak. We’ve experienced this many times, especially in the N-series and occasionally in E-Series,we are seeing a Black variant popping up.

First they brought it up in the face of music edition with 3 devices being dressed in black,N70,N73 and the N91.Unfortunately for the 2nd edition s60 users,it was only the N70 got it as it was the last follower of that line up(there was N72 but it is almost the same as N70).That change was a success to Nokia’s new Chameleon tactics and the N73 ME was enthusiastically grabbed by so many Music Lovers who were bored by the Silver color version. But to me it was the N91 8GB which looked like a jewel with the New Black dress,Elegant and Glamorous, and it is the best design I’ve ever seen. But it wasn’t so, while it was in the cheap silver/Bronze housing. That is the point that Nokia has discovered, the point which steals the minds of users and fills it with eagerness.I’ve met many people who had exchanged their N73’s and N91 to the Black versions, and most of the time the driving force was not the memory or the Headset,it was purely the, unstoppable lust for Black.

The next milestone of Nokia’s “Blackening” came not with a “Just another Black” device but with some hardware and software changes too,And it was lot better than the namely Music Edition Branding. That was the evolution of N95 to the N95 8GB Black(Also now there is a Black version of the classic N95 available in some regions). The new black outfit is perfectly matching with its hardware tweaks, especially the Big screen and the scaled down top panel keys are going well with the Elegant blackish flow.So Nokia has again succeeded with the dressing trick, but this time its really worth shifting to the 8gig version instead of going to the Classic Silver,Because it has really gone through a Transformation, which was done according to the customer wish-lists.

The latest to join to the Black flow is Nokias Candybay powerhouse, the N82,Initially surfaced with the Stavros’ Artwork,And still going hot in most discussions. But this time they have gone back to the basic stage of transformation, even back from the ME branding, and offering nothing but just color change with Firmware upgrade, which not restricted only to the black variant. So its up to you to decide which color of N82 to go for,But I’m sure the Eagerness fact will overcome you Specification fact,as long as you are a been driven by your taste. So we’ll see more and more of this kind of work by Nokia,And a good indication of this continuing in the E-series is the rumored Black E71 again bringing(Hopefully) Both hardware and Software tweaks to the E61i.So what’s your flavor,Black is Gold?
