N82 : Final thaughts-2parts

N82 is back on its way to WOM world,And I would like to thank everybody there who helped ma and especially RichardG for all the great stuff. While I was having the device I tested mostly on the camera capabilities, and also some other areas too.Anyway as my final words on it I will put them together in two parts as follows.

1.)N82 : What’s New in it.

RAM-Loads of free Memory

Symbian OS is the secret behind Nokia’s growing into “Multimedia Computers”,the reason is that the OS itself is open to variety of application developers to bring solutions to the needs me the growing mobile user community. But if you have used any s60 3rd edition device other than N82,N95 8Gb,E90 and the N95 US version, you’ll know how much the RAM issue was killing you.I’ve had enough of hesitations with my N80, when ever I tried to run two or three programs together especially when you have forgotten to restart your phone for several days and try to open the gallery or web, what you’ll see is a “Memory full”message. But with the N82 you’ll never face this problem. You can easilly install all your favorite

applications and still you are running smoothly without any lagging or freezing. Its in-built 128MB RAM is the most remarkable factor to its success as a perfect multimedia and multitasking powerhouse.Unlike any other symbian phone I’ve used the N82 has perfected the art of memory management. It’s is visible from the begining,as you’ll clearly notice that how fast it boots up.Though the N95′s latest firmware faces the memory management with the demand paging,it wi

ll never become reliable as the 8gig version having 128MB of ram.The N82 is a true storytelling discovery and in the other hand it is a true “creator of history”,as it is capable of convincing, there was no such problem with memory availability on smartphones. After using it for few days you become totally unaware about memory issues,it’s that powerful and can facilitate virtually any number of applications. So you’ll get a total mobile computing experience with the N82.

User interface improvements

As the N95-1 N82 is also running on s60 v3 OS 9.2,but it has some changes and among them the most significant features are the new multimedia menu and the auto screen rotation.

The multimedia menu is not a perfect stranger as it was 1st launched with the N95 8GB and in the N81 too. What I have to say about it is that its good and more productive than the one available in the N95-1,but it doesn’t have the looks.Older version is unique to the N95-1 and it is very customizable, flow of icons is smooth n eye candy, and though it doesn’t change with the theme color code, like the new one,we can change its unique idle mode slideshow as we wish. But the new menu is good in functionality thanks to its tab feature. It makes it very easy to keep track of your recent activities and makes it easy to reach quickly to what you need.So depending on the user it might have cons and pros.

N82 is the first and the only Nokia phone to have built-in auto rotation(though the E70 had it, it requires a hardware switch to be activated when the second keypad is flipped.and also N95 8GB got it recently with its latest firmware update)The auto rotation or the rotation with a key press hit the users when Samir came up with the Rotateme application which is lot better than the N82s auto-rotation,as it offers more control over the rotate function. The N82s auto-rotation comes very handy when it comes to browse the Gallery and the Web,but also sometimes it is very annoying to get the screen disoriented when we are in the middle of some important work.So it would be better if Nokia can buy the rotateme from Samir and integrate it into the OS.

2.)N82 : What I like and dislike

what I like about the N82

1. Rock solid build quality,no wobble like the N95 and no toyish impression like in N81

2. Firm spring assisted camera lens cover, this is the best of it I’ve seen on Nokia’s.And brushed metallic camera unit exterior.

3. Beautifully textured glossy back cover adds a classy elegance to the device.

4. The band around the phone, with nicely fitted camera and volume buttons and the carved-in speakers.

5. Flat and aligned-pad,makes the navigation in menus very easy.

6. Well responsive popped out keys are easy to press.

7. The top placement of the 3.5mm jack, makes more sense and makes it easier to keep the device in a pocket n listen music.

what I dislike about the N82

The reason number 3 and 6 which made me love it also make me dislike the device in another way.So let me start with those 2 things.

1. The smooth glossy surface both in the back n front sides, and the metallic band which has no grip, makes it slippery and it’s very likely to be dropped more than the other devices.

2. Keys are too small though they are, solid. For people with large finger tips texting would not be a very pleasant experience.

3. One-pieced selection keys+Menu+Delete key unit.To me this is the worst modification they’ve done and also by placing the multimedia key between the right selection key and the delete key makes it hard to press the delete key.

4. Highly reflective screen guard makes it impossible to see anything on the screen, when the phone is exposed to sunlight. This was a major issue for me while doing outdoor photography. It would be better if it can adopt a screen like in 6120 classic which has a anti reflective coating on top of the screen.

5. Its good at replacing a digicam but it doesn’t feel like a one,cos its not conveniently designed in such a way to hold firmly like a Digicam while shooting.

So alas What I have to say about the N82, is that I trialled the best ever made Mobile phone released yet!!!!!!
