App review : AutoSisInstaller vs InsFast

When using a PC,the most tiresome thing you’ll come across is the re installation of softwares after a format.Being an equivalently productive and customizable mobile platform to PC operating systems like Windows,Symbian OS too has to go through this irritating rather annoying re-installation procedure to get your device prepared back into a desired state, after a format. So for most of the smartphone users its obvious that,no one can avoid a format, if they do hard with various types of applications.Few months ago LeftUP at OPDA came up with an amazing application named InsFast, productive yet simple application, introducing batch installation feature to S60.With this you can avoid most of the pop up massages you’ll be prompted into during installation and that’s the thing many of us hate to do.So ultimately you’ll be done with minimal key presses and it will save a great deal of time too. After the basic release of the InsFast there was no update appeared for this little app, instead few days ago(actually weeks if I’m correct)a substitute showed up named AutoSisInstaller by TongRen(Who brought you the famous FlipSilent,Vibrate call and ShakeSMS),Somewhere on the blogsphere I read that it’s the same author, that is LeftUP at OPDA but this is not verified yet.Anyway the name doesn’t expresses its full capacity as it is capable of handling *.jar files other than *.sis/sisx.I happened to use this application little while ago and there are few things that I should compare in between them as I felt I should. So lets get down with the capabilities and features of both the applications briefly.

InsFast

  • Simple UI with 3 customizable options.
  1. You can set the path to look for the installation files.
  2. Can choose whether to install onto Phone Memory or the Memory Card
  3. Can have full control over the optional components that come with the installation file, either let it install or not.
  • Still you have to go across some of the confirmations.
  • Doesn’t work with all applications, during some installations it failed, may be because of certificate issues.

AutoSisInstaller

  • Very Simple UI no customizations at all.this is what I hate,
  • Cannot specify a installation file source directory, all the files should be put in to “E:\ThinkChange\” as it is set by default.
  • Cannot specify the the drive to install the applications.
  • No prompting to notifications and confirmations at all,After putting the files into the given directory Options>StartInstall, thats all and it’ll do the job.
  • Offers the Share Feature for the devices with removavale mass storage(Actually most do have),allowing you to share your favourite applications with your friends. Install AutoSisInstaller to the memory card, and just plug your memory card into his device, all your favourite applications in the E:\Basket\ folder will be automatically installed to his device.

For me the AutoSisInstaller was useless as it installed all the appplications to the PhoneMemory and ultimately I was in a big trouble.Dunno this is only happening in N95 8GB as it has a Mass memory inbuilt instead of a card.So it’s upto you to try these applications and also I’d greatly appreciate if you can provide some feedback on the issue with the N95 8GB.
