This Saturday we had our annual get-together,it was a fun time catching up with old buddies and refreshing memories.And there was a good friend of mine,Chathuranga, the person who sent me the Fake N96 video from China,and this time he had one with him,not the one in the previous post but a bit different version. This one has exactly the same dimensions of the original one and since the original N96 is not yet available on the market any one could be easily fooled by one of these.
The Chinese fake makers are really perfecting the art of cloning,this device has something more,that is instead of mobile TV it has a UHF TV tuner,and there was one stylus like thing,but when only pulled it out I saw that it is an antenna for the TV.The only difference was that there were no side speakers at both the side edges like in the real N96 but the speaker is placed next to the 3.2MP camera module instead of the flash.And surprisingly the little pull out stand made out of the camera frame is really working as a Horizontal mode stand for the device just like it is on the real thing.There was no memory card slot as you can see in the pictures,but what amazes me is the superb and rock solid build quality of this,again the slider mechanism is very smooth and no wobble at all.
Best part of the mimicking is the User interface,the whole menu system is made out of original Nokia icons and a person who don’t have a fair knowledge on the Symbian UI could easily be fooled by the layout.It’s that well designed and as you can see even the n-gage icon is there.So beware when buying a phone,cos they are everywhere and better do some googling before going for shopping.
Note: The video is a short one and the quality is horrible as there was very little light inside the hall,but for the photos taken in the Macro mode my N95 8GB’s LED flash did a great job.
