A week ago Nokia Beta Labs, put out another PC application called “Nokia Communication Center Beta”,which acts as an extension to their PC Suite application, allowing easy access to Calendar,Messages, and Contacts. And they’ve gone through a quick update from the V1.0 to v2.0 in less than a week,I think this is the fastest ever response from Nokia to whatever user feedback, damn it was quick.
The positive point of this application is that, it is a good indication of PC suite been continuously evolved, rather than just updating. We saw some new PC applications, popping up like OVI suite,N-Series PC suite, and Music PC Client so this means the growing of the PC suite and all its other add-ons are no near a end, instead we’ll see a a whole bunch of add-ons enriching it everyday. This is true improvement on Nokias PC Software department as they didn’t have a good reputation on it,due to high amount of memory consumption and lack of stability. But now beta lab’s recent contributions have made a tremendous improvements on PC suite and most of the other PC softwares Nokia offers.
The Communication center is one such PC application, and I was using this for last week or so starting from the Beta V1.0 and now updating to v2.0,the top most noticeable improvement Iis the faster response time in all the fields. Here’s a brief walkthrough of the Nokia Communication center to express my experience with it.
I had installed only the N-Series PC Suite on my PC ,but Communication center doesn’t allow to start the installation. It asked for PC suite version 7.0.8.2,so I installed the PC suite(I usually have it, but I wanted to see if could live with the N-Series one alone, after I formatted the PC).Anyway then I was able to install the Communication center and after the restart the application launches automatically.
When the device is connected to the PC,the communication center installs supporting software onto the compatible Nokia device and as soon after the Communication center windows are updated with the information on the device.
And its easy to create new text massages using the PC Keyboard instead of troubling with T9(for some this might makes texting easier than never before, but I’d rather prefer T9)
The other best thing you’ll find on the Nokia Communication center beta is the intuitive MMS composing,it allows you to arrange the templates here and there and change the layout as you wish with just few clicks.
Calendar Entry management isĀ also lot easier, much like it does with Handy Calendar you can easily schedule up things with this beta application.
All the changes you made on the PC application are instantly synchronized with you Nokia Device automatically and you don’t need to go for separate click for that.
Also Contact group management and creating is made more convenient with this.
You can even Dial a number so that a call will be activated on your phone, this feature didn’t work for me in the V1.0 but after the update it worked like charm.
When you right click on a contact,a pop down menu appears offering the options shown in this screenshot,
The Customized view is the best thing in this,as the layout can be populated with only what you need, and leave the rest. This is a good option included to give priority to consumer choice. So depending on what you are and where you are you can arrange things accordingly.
Thumbnail View makes it easy to locate contacts quickly.
At last the Print option, where I have a little suggestion to made.As you can see in the below screenshot you can easily print contact details and the print preview is like this,But it would be better if they offer a an option to arrange layout,so in case if we want to make a business card from the contacts its just a few clicks away.
Another thing I would love to see,is that in future releses N-series PC suite installation having this application built-in for select “Software section” as it is shown in one of the top most screenshot.
