Pixon to Fix On The Touch Flow

Another “physically typical Samsung” touch device is announced from Samsung and whats the big fuzz about everybody going towards touch devices,is the end of devices with keypads, damn then its gonna be a real bad and disappointing news for me.Since the announcement of Nokia Tube so many touch devices are spawning into the market,or is it just now after the Tube hit,we are aware of it,anyway as I’ve written before on the competitors for the S60 touch devices here comes another one, Samsung Pixon M8800.

Samsung being the second largest s60 OS user(No near Nokia’s Involvement as they them self owned it) Licensed from Nokia seems to be i9n a bit hurry to catch up with the touch trend but missed the go,to hang on to the 5th edition.Innov8 the best ever Samsung S60 ever released geared up a good start for their slow paced s60 approach, but they’ve missed it or intentionally skipped it in another landmark of their mobile device line up.

The Pixon M8800 is following the same design language of their touch predecessors like Dual Sim D980,Omnia,F480,F490,Armani, and F700,an distinct design lock-on which I hate in especially in Samsung and Motorola. It’s very normal for a company to repeat a form factor or an unique design after the initial design attracted so many fans, but personally I don’t like it, this is the point where I gave up samsung and moved onto Nokia.

This latest addition of Samsung is clearly targeting the camera department as it faces the competition with its 8MP camera module, even its pre-market name stands for this,Bresson, named after the famous french photojournalist Henri Cartier-Bresson.The top notch features of this 8MP camera is ,

  • video(WVGA@30fps, QVGA@120fps)
  • Geo Tagging
  • Blink and Smile Detection(A feature I was awaiting to see on mobile device camera modules)
  • Shake reduction

So most of all their consideration on taking over the camera department is finally seems to be dominating the market. And the entertainment side is also well catered on the M8800  according to Phones4u.uk

“The touch screen accelerator interface is effortless and responsive, which is a far cry from many handsets on the market. Whilst the 3.2 inch 16 million pixel colour display shows excellent photos, it also supports and runs full HD TV viewing. So regardless of your entertainment demands, the Samsung Pixon M8800 is capable of occupying any preferences with the highest of competences. Films, pictures, games, and music are masterly delivered through a collection of new hardware and software advancements to the Samsung range”

This slim touch device is challenging the dimentions of the other rivals with its super slim 15.5mm thick body. But still I think there is a big downfall with out s60 touch in it as it was presented by a s60 OS using company and especially after their release of INNOV8.

Over at Dialaphone.uk more of its features are available,

It’s a measure of just how advanced the cameraphone market has become when an 8 megapixel lens doesn’t raise temperatures as much as it would have done six months ago, but Samsung are really going for domination in this section of the market with the INNOV8 also boasting a similar camera but without the enhancements the Pixon branding will bring. The M8800 Pixon will feature autofocus and a flash obviously, but also face/smile/blink detection, panoramic shooting, image stabalisation and shake reduction software, all of which are to be found on ‘proper’ point-and-shoot cameras.

The Pixon’s Assisted GPS feature will not only guide you to your destination but also allow geo-tagging of your pictures, something which will start to become more popular when it’s finally integrated into social networking websites. Even before this time, the geo-tag makes a great addition to pictures taken on a holiday or for work-related situations. Another smart feature is the accelerometer which as well as rotating the screen automatically, works well with the photo album, where a simple tilt of the handset sees the pictures scroll across the screen accordingly.

When we first had a glimpse of the M8800 we knew it as the Bresson, a name which was wisely dropped in favour of the more relevant Pixon, it became clear the phone was not going to be a smartphone but would still feature a touchscreen and the latest version of Samsung’s TouchWiz operating system. You won’t get Wi-Fi inside the Pixon, but it is a 3G handset with full 7.2Mbps HSDPA support, so it should speed along quite nicely on the right network. Interestingly, the Pixon has Samsung’s SRS Virtual Surround (often found on the company’s television sets) system inside plus DivX support for watching videos and a TV-Out socket for displaying them on a larger screen.”
