Switch from 3rd Edition to 2nd Edition

Today due to a personal matter I had to switch from my beloved N95 8GB to my old but gold 6630,but the biggest challenge in phone switching the contacts transfer stood in front of me too.Especially the sim I use in my 6630 didn’t carry a data plan and thus no way to Synchronize with my OVI account. So had to use the traditional switching scenario and I was wondering whether it is possible o do it without a pain in between 2 devices which belong to two different editions. So I checked in my 6630 to see whether there is a switch application available on it too,but instead I found the “Transfer” application listed inside the tools folder.I turned it on and then I was prompted into a screen saying “switch on Bluetooth on the other device”,so I did switch on it on my N95 8GB,but nothing happened.
Disappointed and heartbroken,I decided to give one more try before giving it up, but this time starting from the “Switch” application on the N95 8GB.Then something unexpected happened, after I switched on bluetooth on my 6630,and instead of starting the transfer, N95 8GB sent an installation file on to the 6630,named DataMover.sis.Then when I opened the message it installed the application without any kind of problem and a new application icon appeared, not a nice looking one though, called “switch” on my 6630 too.So after all this is done I was able to transfer all my messages and contacts onto my 6630 with out any hesitation. So it was that easy and what amazes me is that the N95 8GB being a 3rd edition device still it managed to install a application onto a 2nd Edition device, and its not a java one either. So in case you want to switch from Newer to Older no worries, not only the contacts, calendar and messages even the application itself will be transferred according to your need, its that easy and glad to see such options exist.I never knew about this and didn’t expect it to be so,anyway this is a good indication of how the inter platform stability and communication issues were pre-assessed by the Symbian developers to make it super easy to shift to newer devices,in my case even for older ones.Have anyone of you experienced this? and with devices more older than the 6630,like 7610,if so please share your experience.

Yup, really s60v4 is amazing. I also tried transferring some data from my N82 to an S40 phone (Nokia 5300), and it did the same thing… Sent an application to the S40 phone and poof, my eyes were shining.. ^^

Happened when I bought my N95, I had a 6600.
The switch app isn't working for me with N78 to N95, or 6210 Nav to N95. Wonder why…
