Once I bought an W550i for my girlfriend,while I was using a Nokia 6630 the reason was, at that time the s60 interface wasn’t much appealing to a youth eyes and also a bit too complicated,though it is the best in customizing doesn’t pose the simplicity especially for a girl.Moreover the quality of sound played a big roll in that choice.Again the swivel form factor was a big attraction which took us with a babyish exhibiting eagerness.That was a long time ago,and now after seeing so much of “Almost the Same” Walkman devices they too seems to have had enough of repeating the same thing with different shells.
The new W705(An awkward numbering to me) is getting more advanced,within the given limits.In this there isn’t much change in the design language but the inbuilt hardware and software is refreshed and revamped largely,going for big step in the connectivity.For the first time a Walkman branded device is equipped with Wi-Fi and it’s a timely included option to live up to the heap in the current market.Also though it is rumored to be a GPS Equipped device,the final product doesn’t carry one instead they’ve tried to satisfy the consumers with a cheap software solution for Geo-Tagging.Cell Tower coordinate assisted photo tagging system,which was first brought on to S60 devices by Psiloc with the little application called”Photo Tagger”.Anyway while rapidly moving forward,the W705 seems to be doing some back steps too,by omitting the 3.5mm standard audio jack,they’ve made a really bad reputation for a music branded device.
Again the software department was retouched with the new Walkman 3.0 software where I’m dieing to see the W960 successor of it.I will never go for a fixed Java OS powered device like the W705 but being S60 (UIQ though)powered devices W950 and W960 still have lot more personalization possibilities within,so the next generation of Walkman S60 powered by the Walkman 3.0 would make me rethink when it comes to buy a new phone.But wonder how long will they take for it,till then the polished devices like W705 will rule the world of Walkman generations with the expanded entertaintment offeres.
