The New Year Choice: N82 or N85

First of all my apologies for been away for a long time,it is almost 3weeks since I stopped writting here continuously. The last few weeks of the year was a real rush to catch up with, the hardest and busiest for me as it was throughout the year.2008 was a year that made so many changes in my life, speaking on me and my S60 experience.Briefly,
1.I graduated from Uni after completing my BSc in Science.
2.Got Engaged.
3.Saved two squirrel babies and raised them till they are ready to go back.
3.Won the N95 8GB from Nokia Fimmaking Awards.
4.Moved the blog from Symbian-life.blogspot to Symbian-LifeBlog.com.
5.Won the N78 from SymbiaNational Geographic Contest.
6.Got Married.
7.Got an offer from Australia to do my MSc.
8.Visa Granted.
That’s how things happened around me,and put me into a tight schedule, busy as never before.OK those things happened last year now it’s 2009 an goodbye 2008,my lucky year.
So in the very beginning of this new year I’m prompted to make a choice on the devices I use(me and my wife). It’s about the 5700Xpress Music that my wife Samudrika is using, the time has come to replace it with a much newer model,my main concerns are on,
1.GPS
2.A fast responding Camera.
3.Steady and a reliable device.
4.Should look pretty.
Right now I have N82 and N85 in my mind,N82 I have used but,the N85, have never even seen one in real.I love the N82’s features ,it was a real Story Telling Rediscovery when I trialed one few months back and I have no complaints on it.But the N85 is also good, which is indeed prettier and packed, only lacking the Xenon when compared to the N82,but recent trial reports from my fellow bloggers about the wobble in the slider mechanism is pulling my leg.Wobbly slider issue was killing me for a long time now since I was using my N80 and Now the N95 8GB.
So I’m stuck in-between two choices that I have to make by the end of this day.Does anybody have suggestions or opinions before I purchase one?

I would go (and I will :P) for an Nokia N85. It haves almost evertything from the N82 except the Xenon flash.
So, if you really need a Xenon flash, then is the N82 the best phone, otherwise the N85.
I like the dual slider form factor, it haves a bigger screen, Oled display, S60 FP2, and the phone is newer, so it will be more supported by nokia.

Ya the N85 is new and advanced, but there are other factors that we have to consider before buying one,I'll bring them up in another post.
BTW what pot do you mean here?,
“but can you give me the post with the explanation to test Nokia phones online? I can't find it anymore”

Ravi, the first thing I always ask people is what do they want to do with their phone?
I think you should see what she uses her phone for? What else is she looking to do with it. The N82 is a great cameraphone, a fact that each one of us will agree to. The N85 is a gaming phone and there are build issues to it.
I think you should see what is it that she will like to use a phone for, and what all does she want to do and then go ahead with a purchase…
If you have already done that and are contemplating which one, I would suggest the N82. This is simply because in the regular course of life you are more likely to click photos than play games… and the N82 is still the one to beat in terms of camera performance, with xenon flash going strongly in favor of it. There aren't many issues in terms of build quality, only the keypad but I don't think it's going to be difficult to get used to it.
That's my opinion… Hope it is of use to you!

There was a post on this blog with the explanation on how to test Nokia phones for free.
You've had to register on a nokia site (nokia pro, nokia forum or nokia developper or something..) and then you could test new phones like Nokia N96, Nokia N85 8Gb, ..
The phones were real, they run a program so they can be controlled by a distance.
I hope someone can help me find back the post or the site.
thanks!

Both phones are very good, but i agree with you… i prefer having a cell+camera+mp3 than cell+videogame+mp3 because the quality of mp3 and camera of cellphones today is very good, but for gaming i don't change my PSP or Nintendo DS with a N85
Also, the N85 OLED is very interesting, but again, i prefer playing videos and games with my PSP than in my actual N95… I want to buy a N82 later
