MWC 2009: Introducing the Nokia 6710 and 6720


The first day of Mobile Word Congress 2009 in Barcelona, saw a lot of action. Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson all launched the next wave of handsets and clearly showcased their intentions to each other and the world. Each of them made it clear that S60 is here to stay.

With this association to S60, finally we will see competition in it’s truest sense. With the handsets running the same OS, it will now be all about who gives the best bang for the buck.

Nokia began its onslaught with the launching of 4 new handsets, 1 app store and a handset leak.

Samsung showcased it’s Omnia HD and Sony Ericsson, S60′s newest member brought the biggest baddie of them all, the ‘Idou’.

First up is Nokia,

nokia-6710-navigator_brown_01-small6720Nokia launched the 6710 Navigator and the 6720 Classic handsets. Both the handsets are reported to run S60 V3 FP2. They possess a 5 Megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, Map 3.0 and N-Gage compatibility.

The 6710 Navigator been reported to have a battery life of 12.6 hours under pedestrian navigation (with the lights on) and about 6.6 hours (with lights on) of car navigation in one full battery charge.

While the 6720 Classic does a bit better by giving close to 13.9 hours of pedestrian navigation (with lights on) and 7.3 hours of car navigation (with lights on). In the music department expect it to give you 27 hours of non stop music output.

The 6710 Navigator is expected to cost approx. 300 Euros (approx $ 380, Indian Rs 18,500), before taxes and subsidies.

The 6720 on the other hand will cost approx. 245 Euros (approx $ 300, Indian Rs 15,000) before taxes and subsidies.
