M1: Android on your S60 phone

Android, the new ‘free’ OS from Google, is, I admit, a beautifully designed OS. The cosmetic part of it is refreshing and it does look to be optimized for ‘touch’ based handsets. Now on the other hand we have to the tried, tested and King of smartphone OSes – Symbian S60. In its new avatar, the S60 5th edition brings touchscreen friendly UI to us.
But the fact remains, the S60 5th edition is rather boring. All (most of ) the strengths of the S60 3rd edition are the weaknesses on the 5th edition, with sub menus buried deep within and a lot of other things. I must say after the initial hype, the S60 5th edition is not as great in terms of UI experience. make no mistake, the S60 OS by itself is extremely potent and the still best out there.
Now, this is where MMMOOO comes in, they have managed to yet again combine the looks of one UI with the S60. MyPhone was their first creation and was their ticket to fame. I have reviewed it and thought it was one of the best apps to have, you can even buy it from out store. But I have been proven wrong by a long shot. MMMOOO comes out with the M1, an application that makes your phone resemble an Android device. M1 is a Flash based shell for the S60 devices.
M1 basically makes the main screen and the menu of the device resemble that of an Android device. I have had a chance to play with it on the N97 and I must tell you that on the touch based devices, it absolutely rocks! It imitates the Android UI in the best possible way. So if you are wanting to try out Android on your phone but cannot, then this application is just what the doctor ordered. Personally speaking, this application is even better implemented than the MyPhone. I simply loved the way it look and and works. This IS THE application to have on your touchscreen phone.
So what’s the not so nice about this app you might ask, having ranted in such a positive manner about it. Well, just a few, I could not find the option to set a wallpaper in this app, like in the MyPhone. Also I could not access my ‘Applications’ folder at all, I would have really liked to have been able to access that folder, I hope this comes soon to this application. A ‘Settings’ option for the application itself (which would maybe allow us to change the Clock on the main screen) was not there. That’s all, since this is a software and knowing how MMMOOO keeps on working on their apps to make it better, they will fix this soon and then it will be simply unbeatable.
So then, is it worth buying? Absolutely! I would recommend you to buy it. It gives the boring S60 look a new look and how! 9.4/10 is my rating for this absolutely killer app. And for all of you readers, we will have a M1 contest coming up in a couple of days, so stay tuned!
Here’s a gallery of screenshots of the M1:
