Will the Nokia N5 be a Symbian Anna Smartphone?

According to the latest leak, the Nokia N5 will be a Symbian Anna smartphone with a full touchscreen display.

There isn’t much information on this handset, and from the tons of pictures that have leaked, it is nowhere as good-looking as the currently-available Nokia X7.

At first, it looked as if the icons on the user interface came from Meego, but that cannot be true as it is known from Nokia’s own CEO that the N9 will be the first and last smartphone to feature that Linux operating system.

If you must know, we believe that the Nokia N5 will be a mid-end smartphone with Symbian Anna, a 3.3-3.5″ touchscreen display, an 8 megapixel camera with fixed focus, HSDPA and HSUPA, Wi-Fi with DLNA, and possibly, just possibly NFC.

It is not clear how much Nokia is betting on Near Field Communications, but if that will be a weapon of the future, then the N5 should definitely see it.

It’s a matter of time for us to discover what the Nokia N5 truly brings. What are your thoughts?

Fujitsu F-022 : Symbian Phone For China

Fujitsu has announced a new Symbian running flip phone, the F-022, for the Chinese market. The phone is a result of a collaboration with the fashion brand Folli Follie and is aimed towards “Fashion Conscious” users.

Features

110 x 50 x 14.8 mm in size and 118g in weight
3 inch LCD display (480 x 854 resolution)
Detachable fragrance chip
8.1 megapixel camera with ‘beautiful skin’ and ‘pupil tracking’ modes.
Water (rated IPX5/7/8) and dust (rated IPX5) resistant
WCDMA and GSM connectivity

The phone does not use the standard Nokia S^3 homescreen UI instead relying on the theme developed by UX team at Symbian Foundation. The phone will be available from Beijing Digital Telecom shops from the 24th June.

Nokia E6 Now Available At Nokia UK

The Nokia UK page for the E6 says buy instead of pre-order (As the X7 does). However, it still doesn’t seem to be available on wider channels (i.e. the big retailers/networks – this is often the case btw as the generic unlocked are easier to release)

Unlocked it’s at £349.00. Note that Nokia’s unlocked price is generally much higher than other retailers. Having said that, it’s £50 cheaper than Amazon UK’s current price and their stock doesn’t seem to be available until June 28

Nokia T7 and Nokia 702T Confirmed

Nokia Blog China just unveiled two new devices for the Chinese market. The Nokia T7 has the same design as the Nokia N8 but looses the 12 MP camera and the bump alongside. Exact specs are unknown but the internals should be equivalent to other Nokia Symbian devices. The OS appears to have the Anna Update installed.

Meanwhile the Nokia 702T appears to be a variant of the Nokia E6. It loses two menu keys and has slight design changes. The keyboard layout also seems to have changed.

Nokia just unveiled a new video which shows the effort behind the Nokia N8 and its awesome optics.

The video showcases the collaboration between Nokia and Carl Zeiss. Some key points from the video are detailed below.

Nokia working with Digia on new Nokia Conversations App

Nokia Conversations just showed off some WireFrames detailing their upcoming Nokia Conversations Application.

At the moment, they’ve received some sketches and wireframes:

Navigate with Home/Category and profile screen (latter may not make it in finished version)
Gray is NOT the theme colour. This is the usual bland thing you do as final colour schemes can be sorted later.
Yellow boxes are the thumbnails
Red/Orange circles indicate levels of interest (represented perhaps by page views/comments/tweets/likes)

Belle UI Coming to S40 ?

Jay over at MyNokiaBlog reports that the Belle UI might be making its way to S40 devices as well. The update scheduled to hit S^3 devices later this year brings a major interface haul to all current S^3 devices. The update integrates the top status bar adds new icons along with a performance boost.

With the S40 interface getting the update as well , we could be looking at a consolidation of interfaces across S40 , S60 and MeeGo (as seen from the Jesse’s Girl video). Very interesting !

Thought that your C7 looked classy ? Wait till you feast your eyes on the Nokia Oro. Wrapped in an 18k gold border , sapphire front keys , Weir Leather back and of course the standard Gorilla Glass display. The internal specifications remain the same.

Final QT SDK 1.1 Released

Those of you who are interested in application development for Symbian might want to head over to Forum Nokia right now. The final version of the Qt SDK 1.1 has been released.

“The QT SDK allows you to create apps for Symbian, Maemo and soon MeeGo devices, as well as desktop computers. One of its key features is that repurposing apps for different devices is made extremely easy. Qt SDK 1.1 is based on Qt 4.7 with the addition of several APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) for mobile development. It also sees the arrival of Qt Quick, an app-creation component that combines visual tools like Qt Creator 2.1 with the new QML language.”
