Nokia T7 and Nokia 702T Confirmed

Nokia Blog China just unveiled two new devices for the Chinese market. The Nokia T7 has the same design as the Nokia N8 but looses the 12 MP camera and the bump alongside. Exact specs are unknown but the internals should be equivalent to other Nokia Symbian devices. The OS appears to have the Anna Update installed.

Meanwhile the Nokia 702T appears to be a variant of the Nokia E6. It loses two menu keys and has slight design changes. The keyboard layout also seems to have changed.

Nokia Play To Brings DLNA To S^3

Nokia Play To is designed to ease the process of playing media stored on your mobile through remote devices. Once you have opened the application, choose which device to connect to, and then choose the photo, video or music file to play. In most cases the media will appear within in a few seconds on your chosen device (longer times are possible, depending on the size of the file and the speed of your wireless network).

We tested this with a Windows PC and found audio and images were played in around one second, with videos taking around three seconds. Similar results were observed on a Sony TV. Once a media item has begun playing, you can use the Nokia Play To application to find the next media item, while the first is played in the background.

You can also browse the files on your phone from a DLNA control point (player). In this instance, the UI will be controlled by the playback device, rather than the phone. In order to do this you will need to turn on the DLNA server in your phone, by going to Settings->Connectivity->Media Server.

DLNA compliant devices are more common that you may realise. For example Windows Media Player 11+ supports DLNA (you may need to enable this setting), which means any Windows PC can be used with Nokia Play To. In addition, many recent TVs and Blu-Ray players have this functionality built in. Also, the Xbox and PlayStation entertainment consoles also support the DLNA standard

Ovi Store 2.8 Update With App Updates Now Live !

A few days back Nokia announced that they will be updating the Nokia Ovi Store to support direct application updating. This update numbered as Store 2.8 is now live and is gradually being rolled out world wide.

We’ve got the update on our in house N8 and can say that the Store is much smoother now with the added benefit of app updates !

Floating Widgets Coming To Symbian Belle ?

A banner on top of the official Nokia Germany Youtube Channel seems to have revealed what the Symbian UI might look in the near future. The UI shown in the devices includes free floating widgets which are known to be scheduled for a future update. Notably , this does not include the combined status bar.

What do you think ? The future or just a photoshop ?

Symbian Metro UI Could Be The Future (Or Not) !

Finnish designer ,Tommi Incrosnatu has created a concept UI layer which would be a cross between Symbian’s functionality and Nokia’s upcoming Windows Phone devices UI.

Definitely interesting. Could this be the future ? I don’t think so but i definitely would love to be proven wrong on this one !

Nokia To Use Symbian And WP7 Together For A Long Time

In an open letter addressed to the developers , Purnima Kochikar , head of developer relations at Nokia announced that Nokia plans to sell Symbian and Windows Phone Devices simultaneously for the foreseeable future. Poornima states that as part of the 1 billion devices strategy Symbian plays an integral role in Nokia’s device portfolio.

Nokia is poised to bring new hardware which will include much wanted specifications like Gigahertz class processors , more RAM , better GPUs while running on the updated version of Symbian. This is in addition to the updated user interface supposed to come to Nokia devices later this year.

Research firm Ovum had previously said that it expects Nokia Symbian devices to remain in the market till around 2016. The Symbian devices will be present in the low-mid range of the product portfolio while WP7 devices will make the top end of the spectrum.

PayPal App Available For Symbian

Paypal , the popular online banking service has released a new application for Symbian smartphones. The app includes all basic functionality including transferring of cash.

The application is available for download directly from the Ovi Store subject to regional restrictions.
