Nokia N8 to be the last Symbian based N Series Device.

According to CNET , discussions with Nokia officials have unveiled that the N8 is planned to be the last Symbian based Nseries Device. All future high end device will be running on the Meego OS. It is expected that Symbian will now be relegated to the low-mid range handsets.

Quoting CNET :

According to the Nokia peeps we spoke to, the N8 will be the last N-series to run on Nokia’s Symbian platform; all N-Series from here on will run MeeGo. This leaves Symbian (in its current version 3 and the future version 4) on Nokia’s X- and E-series devices, with the budget-conscious C-series making use of the existing Series 40 platform. The N9 will be the first MeeGo device, but with the N8 shipping at the end of Q3 or early Q4 it’s hard to say whether the N9 will see the inside of phone stores before the end of the year.

Frankly speaking , this change has been long due as the Avkon UI of Symbian does not stand a chance against competing mobile operating systems. It is in Nokia’s best interest to promote MeeGo as the top end OS atleast till S^4 arrives later next year.

Nokia announced X5-01 at Nokia Connections

Nokia has just announced the launch of the Nokia X5-01 Xpress Music device at the Nokia Connections Event in Singapore. The X5 comes in a form factor which is new for Nokia devices. The screen is square and slides up to reveal a full QWERTY portrait keyboard. The camera on the device is a 5MP unit . Connectivity wise, there is support for the usual 3G , Wi-fi and GPS is included as well. The device runs on the very stable S60 v3 FP2 with some custom modifications to the homescreen.

Being a comes with music device , you get one year of free music from the Ovi Music Store.

Nokia N900 launches in India – Our Opinion

The Nokia N900… The one phone which has received tremendous positive feedback from Nokia in the last few years. To be honest , the device is .. well was every geeks wet dream. This device has finally come to India. We already know all about its tech specs , etc so lets talk about its relevance in India.

The possible future of Nseries devices? maybe

The device has been priced in the Rs. 30,000 ballpark. Now that might not be the price we would all want but guess what ! Its still priced lower than most new super smartphones in the mark.

This device is practically a computer in your palm. It can do pretty much anything you want with it. It has been used to control R/C planes , control you TV and everything in between. The reason behind it is the OS. Its the only major Maemo 5 device currently on the market.

There has been quite a bit of resentment amongst people regarding the rather high price of the device considering its an almost one year old device. I do agree with that sentiment to some extent. However, the value proposition which you are getting here is unbeatable. 32GB of inbuilt memory expandable to 64GB , 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens , Hardware Keyboard. You are buying a portable media player , a camera , a mini laptop and a cellphone in one go.

Keeping everything in mind , i would have to say that the device is still totally worth it . Would i buy it ? Well probably no , but thats because i run a site called “Symbian-Lifeblog” and so the N8 will be MY next device

But seriously , go out to your nearest Nokia Priority Dealer and give this a try. You will truly see the future of mobile computing on the N900. The amazing multi-tasking functionality is to be seen to be believed.

Nokia C3, C6 and E5 announced !

Everyone Connect : Truely that is what Nokia has achieved with these devices. Evolutionary rather than revolutionary they bring high end features to the mass market. The c3 , E5 are portrait qwerty devices while the C6 is a landscape qwerty slider with 3.2″ touchscreen.

Espoo, Finland – Nokia has announced three new handsets – the Nokia C3, Nokia C6 and Nokia E5 – designed to put better messaging and social networking tools in the hands of more people around the world, at affordable prices. These new handsets feature full QWERTY keyboards, and enable access to a range of different email accounts, IM communities and social networks.

The Nokia C3, Nokia C6 and Nokia E5 are made for just that.”

The Nokia C3 is the first device to bring a full QWERTY keyboard to the world’s most popular mobile phone platform – Series 40 – and is the first in the range to enable access to social networks directly on the homescreen. People can view, comment, update their status and share pictures to their favorite social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

At an estimated price of EUR 90, before taxes and subsidies, the Nokia C3 also comes with Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat, meaning first time users can set up email and chat accounts straight from the device, without the need for a PC. Other notable features are the Wi-Fi connectivity, a two megapixel camera, rich color 2.4 inch screen and support for up to an 8GB memory card. The super-super amazing folk at WOMWorld/Nokia have always been overtly helpful in helping us get our grimy hands on the very latest by Nokia. And this time around we have…… THE N900 !!! Oh yeah , the latest and greatest by Nokia which is truly every techies dream device. We have full 2-3 weeks with us to investigate every nook and cranny of the device and we fully intend to exploit this opportunity

Ovi Maps Competition ! We Want To Hear Your Story !

Nokia has just announced a competition for Ovi Maps users and its AWESOME ! Users are encouraged to submit their experiences with Ovi Maps in the form of stories as videos , blog posts ! It can be any service of Ovi Maps of course: Drive, Walk, Share location and so on.

The Ovi Maps competition is running from March 22nd 1pm GMT until April 19th 1pm GMT.

Users can submit their stories as :

Record a video and share it via YouTube, Vimeo, Qik or any other video service of their choice;
Take pictures, upload them on Facebook and click here to create your story with our Facebook application. They can also upload them on Flickr, Twitpic or any other service of their choice;
Or write a blog post.

Once their story is ready to be shared, they can tweet it to @OvibyNokia with the link to their story and the hash tag #OviMaps.

Each week they will announce a winner. You can win one of the following Nokia GPS smartphones:

Nokia N97 mini with the latest Ovi Maps v 3.03, a car holder and a car charger; or
Nokia X6 with the latest Ovi Maps v 3.03, a car holder and a car charger; or

Nokia X10 Symbian^3 handset leaked ?

Well what do we have here ! The folks over at BestBoyz , a dutch site , have evidently gained access to leaked documents showing off an upcoming device. The documents show off an X6 successor , termed the X10 which includes a side sliding keyboard.

Mobbler updated to use lesser data !

Mobbler , the popular Last.fm streaming app has been updated to version 0.09. The big update is local file playback. If you’re listening to a station and Mobbler sees that you have the same song stored on your memory card, it will play the local file instead of streaming it, saving you both data transfer and battery life.

Other new features include the ability to have Mobbler show lyrics, downloaded on the fly from Lyricsfly.com. You can also now edit tags on the currently playing track, so if there’s an incorrect one, you can fix that right away. For those of you that enjoy live music, you’ll also see a red banner across the top of the album art if the artist is currently on tour – if you’re on an S60v5 device like the X6 or the N97, you’ll be able to click this banner to get more information, too.
