With the launch of Nokia’s touchscreen device, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, Nokia has finally decided to take on the menace of the Windows Mobile powered devices and the iPhone in one shot. While the 5800 is more likely to be compared to the iPhone. It is the HTC Diamond which poses a bigger threat to the 5800 Xpressmusic.
The 5800 comes with a 3.2″ inch WVGA (640×360) screen which is capable of displaying 16.7 million colours v/s the HTC Diamond which has only a 2.8″ VGA (640×480) screen capable of displaying just 65000 colours. Both the phones possess a proximity sensor, handwriting recognition, support for practically and unlimited entry and fields contacts, secondary camera for video calls and an accelerometer. The 5800 has a better implementation of the scroll bars (an important feature that is easily overlooked) haptic feedback. The difference of 0.4″ is telling and really changes a lot of things. In terms of design the Touch Diamond comes out ahead with its angular look. The plastics also look of a higher quality compared to the 5800’s plastic.
While the Touch Diamond possess a better hardware solution, the 5800 is not to be taken lightly simply because it looks slower on paper. It is equally fast, maybe faster than the Diamond even. Both the phones possess WiFi chips allowing the user to surf in WiFi hotspots.
The absence of flash on the Diamond makes the 5800 come out as a winner in the camera aspect. Both of them possess a 3.2MP camera solution. With the 5800 having dual LED flash and Carl Zeiss optics. In the music aspect, the 5800 outscores the Touch Diamond with better equipment, like 3.5mm audio jack and stereo speakers.
The 5800 has a memory card slot and comes with an 8GB Micro SDHC card in the retail package, this compared to the 4GB fixed memory in the HTC Touch Diamond means that theoretically one would have unlimited memory on the 5800. The absence of a Micro SD slot in the Touch Diamond could be a deal-breaker to many with the advent of the 5800. The battery life on the 5800 is also way better when compared to the HTC Touch Diamond.
So which phone would I choose? Definitely the 5800, since the 5800 clearly outdoes the Touch Diamond in almost every aspect. The addition of a plectrum and a stand also make the 5800 a better proposition. What would you choose? Leave your comments below!
