No longer it could be put in to the account of rumors, whilst it still happen to be a rumor, the sudden appearance of its official video is yet another accidental product leak as they say, thats why the video was removed from youtube may be.Anyway one thing is clear,it aint a prototype concept, its an existing prototype device that’s in the hands of some of their testers, who just cant keep their lips sealed or is it just another strategic marketing technique?doesn’t matter what it is, there is enough proof to justify the existence of this simple yet complicated but long awaited E-series device to be brought up.I’m wondering what took this long for Nokia to move on to this form factor when the sidekick trend was rushing into the hands of youth all around the world, while the side sliding was recognized as a productive and effective way to stack a full QWERTY inside business device.

So it’s a reason to celebrate them picking up this formfactor into their design portfolios at least now after lagging behind the other leading manufacturers.Being a E-series device its not just the Side Sliding that is there to amaze us but there is the spirit of all the current EXX devices released till today.

Inside E75 it’s,

  • Multiple Keypads-The legendary transformer E70
  • Candybar formfactor when closed-Packing the hand held goodness of E51 and E71/E63
  • Full QWERTY keypad-Ultimate Mini laptop E90
  • Slide aside instead of Slide up-E66/E65

So isn’t this going to be a Landmark in Nokia design line up?

E63 Not Really a Downgrade,But E71 Retouched

E-series devices have always fascinated me,there was/is a define line between E and N series devices in the design language which brings a distinguishable uniqueness to them. The Exx gadgets are always more glamorous, grand looking and moreover they pose a better built quality than their tech piled Nxx cousins.Once I had the chance to trial a E61i from WOM world, until I get my hands on it I had no idea on this devices rigid built,to be honest I have to admit that it was the best Nokia I’ve ever handled, the keypad stole my hart in the first touch. Also their is a clear difference in the materials been used in these E-series ones,so do the mechanisms of moving parts on them, like smooth sliders.

The E71 by all means, is the ultimate product of E61i’s evolution, timely released offering a rich list of features it was the flagship device of E-series line up.So no wonder the Nokia E71 was awarded Best Mobile Phone in WIRED magazine’s 2008 Best of Test. But the E71’s prices were bit too high as it was carrying so much of features like built in GPS and Wi-Fi,but they have managed to tackle this this high price hurdle with the all new E63,a downgraded E71(as many say) to strip out excess baggage enabling it to launch with a significantly low price. The E63 is expected to hit the market with a price of 199Euros,very reasonable and surely would be a worth spending.

“People use Eseries to access their corporate mail, review their calendar and work in their business network, so the Nokia E63 still includes Wi-Fi connectivity, easy access to Mail for Exchange and dedicated key access to contacts, calendar and email”, explains Soren Petersen, Senior Vice President at Nokia.

Ben Smith over at SMS Text News is of the few lucky guys out there who had the chance to get an initial hands on experience,so as he says there aren’t any significant physical differences, here’s a list of things that makes the E63 different from E71.

  • The E63 has a coloured plastic shell versus the E71’s metal one.  The front is a metallic-finish, whilst the back cover is a soft-touch finish – both attract far few fingerprints than the E71’s.
  • The E63 is nearly identical in dimensions to the E71 except for the depth – the E63 is around 1.5 times the depth of the E71.
  • The E63 has a 3.5mm jack on top versus the E71’s 2.5mm jack on the side.  This appears to be the first E-series to have a standard headphone socket – something normally saved for N-series.
  • The E63 has no side buttons for volume or voice recording.  It’s also missing the E71’s IR window.
  • The E63 has a revised keyboard layout, adding a ‘/’ button on the lower row, shortening the space bar.
  • The E63 appears to have a slightly smaller dimension screen although it is the same 320 by 240 pixels as the E71.
  • The E63 lacks internal GPS.
  • The E63 does not support HSDPA data.
  • The E63 has the same 110 meg internal memory, but is shipped without an additional memory card (although a slot to add one is present).
  • The E63 has a 2MP camera versus the E71’s 3.2MP and has a fixed focus.
  • The E63 adds a flashlight function that allows the camera’s LED flash to be used as a torch.
  • The E63 lacks the E71’s faux-leather slip case.

But for most users the only affected change would be the omission of the built-in GPS,where it stands no chance when it comes to cut down the price,so lets call it to be a worth but an unbearable sacrifice.Going bit physically over the E63 it is more appealing with its new colour tones, than it was presented in E71.At the first time my Wife  saw it what she said was”Wow what a beautiful phone is it”.The design teams at Nokia are really in to the business now.So to me it aint mean a downgrade at all but a nice face-lifted budget phone, which is indeed the best of its kind.E71 was retouched to look more appealing to your eyes ,feel more comfortable in your hands and moreover now it fits your pocket with your budget.
