We are up with a contest where we are giving away up to 10 activation codes to the M1 – Android application. We are sure that this is one of the best applications made for Symbian S60 devices. This application is designed to mimic the Android UI, something which it excels at. I congratulate again the guys from MMMOOO for making the M1 application. I personally rate this above the MyPhone even.
This time the competition will be slightly different, there will be up to 10 activation codes given away. How it works is, if there are only 10 people participating, then there will be only one license, and if there are 50 people participating, there will be 5 licenses. Now suppose there are 120 participants, we will have 10 licenses only and not 12. Everybody can join to this contest, simply by commenting on this post. The regular price of M1 is 4,99$ but by getting into this contest, you can get it by free.
To join the contest you only need to:
- Comment in this post, saying something like: “I am in”, “I want to get a M1 App”, simply comment;
-On the comment you must put a real e-mail so that we can contact you
…that’s it.
Rules:
-You are able to comment more than one time, but your e-mail will only count once.
-We will get the winners using random.org and we will ‘printscreen’ the result and post here in the website.
-Those winners who don’t answer to our e-mail notification in 1 week lose automatically the opportunity to win the app, giving the chance to others and so on.
-The winners will be asked to give the IMEI of their S60 device so that they can be able to activate the application. Please remember that this application works only on S60 3rd edition and 5th edition devices.
Dates:
-The contest starts from now and will end at 7th October 2009 at 8:00 PM (Indian Standard Time – Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata).
-The winners will be posted in the website by 7th October 2009 by midnight (Indian Standard Time) (we will not reveal e-mail address of the winners, just the first half of their email address, i.e the name). So stay tuned.
We would like to thank MMMOOO for giving to our visitors and readers this great opportunity. Now just comment! Best of luck!!!
M1: Android on your S60 phone

Android, the new ‘free’ OS from Google, is, I admit, a beautifully designed OS. The cosmetic part of it is refreshing and it does look to be optimized for ‘touch’ based handsets. Now on the other hand we have to the tried, tested and King of smartphone OSes – Symbian S60. In its new avatar, the S60 5th edition brings touchscreen friendly UI to us.
But the fact remains, the S60 5th edition is rather boring. All (most of ) the strengths of the S60 3rd edition are the weaknesses on the 5th edition, with sub menus buried deep within and a lot of other things. I must say after the initial hype, the S60 5th edition is not as great in terms of UI experience. make no mistake, the S60 OS by itself is extremely potent and the still best out there.
Now, this is where MMMOOO comes in, they have managed to yet again combine the looks of one UI with the S60. MyPhone was their first creation and was their ticket to fame. I have reviewed it and thought it was one of the best apps to have, you can even buy it from out store. But I have been proven wrong by a long shot. MMMOOO comes out with the M1, an application that makes your phone resemble an Android device. M1 is a Flash based shell for the S60 devices.
M1 basically makes the main screen and the menu of the device resemble that of an Android device. I have had a chance to play with it on the N97 and I must tell you that on the touch based devices, it absolutely rocks! It imitates the Android UI in the best possible way. So if you are wanting to try out Android on your phone but cannot, then this application is just what the doctor ordered. Personally speaking, this application is even better implemented than the MyPhone. I simply loved the way it look and and works. This IS THE application to have on your touchscreen phone.
So what’s the not so nice about this app you might ask, having ranted in such a positive manner about it. Well, just a few, I could not find the option to set a wallpaper in this app, like in the MyPhone. Also I could not access my ‘Applications’ folder at all, I would have really liked to have been able to access that folder, I hope this comes soon to this application. A ‘Settings’ option for the application itself (which would maybe allow us to change the Clock on the main screen) was not there. That’s all, since this is a software and knowing how MMMOOO keeps on working on their apps to make it better, they will fix this soon and then it will be simply unbeatable.
So then, is it worth buying? Absolutely! I would recommend you to buy it. It gives the boring S60 look a new look and how! 9.4/10 is my rating for this absolutely killer app. And for all of you readers, we will have a M1 contest coming up in a couple of days, so stay tuned!
Here’s a gallery of screenshots of the M1:
Introducing the E72, 5530 XpressMusic and the 3710 fold
Yesterday it was raining phones from Nokia’s end. I had recently made a post of how I thought Nokia was losing it. I still stand by it, but yesterday seemed to have dampened that a bit. Finally we’re seeing some ‘new’ phones.
Nokia did something that that came as a pleasant surprise to many of us, even though we knew that it was going to happen sooner than later. Hot on the heels of the N86 and N97 release, came the launch of the Nokia E72, Nokia 5530 XpressMusic and the 3710 fold.
Each of the handsets belong to a different category and serve different customer segments. First up is the Nokia E72.
The E72 is a successor to the wildly popular and successful device, the E71. The design of the E72 is very much similar to the E71’s original body, there are changes however, the bottom row of buttons are now different, notice how the characters and space key are different.
The E72 features a 5MP camera sensor and an optical Navi-pad. As you can see, the E72’s front design is similar to the E52 and the E53, this is the new design that the Eseries has gone for. Further improvements include a 3.5mm audio jack, S60 3rd edition with FP2 and an updated email client. All of this in almost the same dimensions as the E71.
The E72 is expected to begin shipping late in the third quarter of 2009 at an estimated retail price of EUR 350 ( US $484 i.e. INR 23,000 ) before taxes and subsidies.
Fone Arena’s Varun has a complete spec sheet of the E72 for you to check out.
Next up is the 5530 Xpressmusic, this device was photographed in the wild about a few weeks back, I first got scent of it through Varun of Fone Arena fame. He had written about it and even stated that it may be the successor to the 5800, I knew it wasn’t so. Yesterday I was proved right. The 5530 is the 3rd S60 5th edition device to hit the markets. The 5530 XpressMusic comes with a 3.2 Megapixel camera, 2.9? Touchscreen with tactile feedback, 3.5mm Audio Jack and a 4Gb microSD card. The 5530 is a cheaper alternative to the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, and thus does not have GPS and 3G.
The 5530 Xpressmusic follows the legacy of the 5800 and has almost similar specs, so you can expect to find a 3.2MP camera and WVGA video recording et al. The device is also expected to hit the markets late in the third quarter and is expected to be priced at an estimated retail price of EUR 199 ( US $275 i.e. INR 13,000 ) before taxes and subsidies. Looks like the Samsung Star and LG Cookie have competition now!
Last but not the least is the 3710 fold. The 3710 fold follows in the design footsteps of the popular CDMA handset, the Nokia 2505. This device however is a GSM phone. The 3710 fold comes in at the INR 10,000 i.e. US $200 segment. It is a 3G enabled device sporting a new design with artistic patterns.
One can clearly see that it is equipped with a 3.2MP camera sensor with flash along with that there is also a photo gallery application that lets you browse your pictures easily. A secondary camera is also present on the inside if you have video calling available in your country. The phone operates on the S40 platform and has a 2.2″ QVGA display, presence of A-GPS is an added bonus. A stereo music player and radio completes the specs. For detailed specs, click here.
Expect this device also to hit the markets around the same time as the above two devices.
MWC 2009: Introducing the Omnia HD, Idou and the KT770
Not to be left behind Samsung, LG and Sony Ericsson have launched their own devices running S60. Wait did I mention Sony Ericsson? Well yes, I did, that’s because Sony Ericsson has outed the biggest baddie of all, the ‘Idou’.
Let’s get to that first.
The ‘Idou’ is reported to be running Symbian Foundation’s S60 V5 iteration on a 3.5? screen with a 16:9 ratio (ala N97). Sony Ericsson has said that this is not the commercial name and a proper name for it will be revealed by this summer.
Now this baddie from Sony Ericsson is reported to have a 12 Megapixel camera! yes you read it right. I wonder how Nokia and the others are going to compete with this bad ass of a device.

LG on the other hand quietly launched the KT770. the LG KT770 is a regular slider, with a 2.8? WVGA (400×240 pixels) resolution display. This device runs S60 3rd Edition with FP2 and is reported to sport a 5 megapixel camera and also a inbuilt GPS receiver. The KT770 is little thick compared to the newer S60 devices outed by the other firms, it measures in at 111mm x 51.5mm x 15.8mm (4.4in x 2in x .6in).
The internal memory is expected to be either 1GB or 2GB, with a microSD card slot to expand it to 16GB. The KT770 comes with Bluetooth, WiFi.
